My passion is empowering people in finding viable solutions to their mental health concerns. There is hope, you can feel like yourself again and many are able to do this with powerful, empirically proven, and safe natural medicines.

My journey started in elementary school. Fueled by a genuine curiosity of the human condition, and never without my trusty pink fanny pack – which contained all of my first aid goodies like band aids, Neosporin, alcohol swabs and gauze—I would set out on adventures with my band of neighborhood kids. While wading along the local creek with our walking sticks, we would talk about life and problem solve our preadolescent quandaries on topics ranging from: how to remove a splinter, to dealing with the grief of parents who were getting a divorce. Time whizzed by and I selected a college program that offered a degree in psychobiology. My undergraduate training emphasized the interconnection between the brain and nervous system, and its impact on the body and immune system. I learned about the power of thought, intention, spirituality and intuition. This led me to Chicago where I was immersed in the study of mental health in counseling. With a Master’s Certificate in Clinical Psychology, and after a winding series of serendipitous events, I landed in the sunny desert of Phoenix, Arizona where I embarked on the journey of becoming a Naturopathic Physician.

As a Naturopathic Doctor, I treat patient suffering from a myriad of mental health concerns ranging from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, to anxiety, OCD and post traumatic stress disorder. I have worked with children of rage, and 80-year-old women who are at the end of their rope. I have seen psychosis go into remission, and I have seen the impossible.

The most powerful medicine is the medicine of hope. And that is what this blog aims to provide. One of my favorite authors, Jerome Gropman was quoted saying: “Hope gives us the courage to confront our circumstances and the capacity to surmount them.” I hope to inspire, empower, and ignite the fire in your life. I hope to share hope.

There is always hope.

This blog will contain articles that dig into topics including: Redefining disease and health, conversations about the mind, body, spirit, unpacking issues of consciousness, existentialism, purpose, meaning, and so much more. I will also share with you some tips from my years of experience as a clinician, and subsequent years of study of other great doctors, philosophers and thinkers, for taking control over your moods. I will share (with permission of course) real patient testimonials, my perspective of mental health research, supplements and products, naturopathic modalities, cutting edge topics in mental health and more.

I look forward to evolving in this journey and walking with you on your path towards wholeness. Together we will dig into the nitty gritty topics of trauma, diagnosis, and much, much more.

In this blog, I invite you to share their stories, concerns, questions and comments. The essence of this place is to be safe, encouraging and powerful. Unfortunately due to the nature of this type of venue, I will not be able to give direct advice to specific concerns but I will do my best to offer guidance and resources. While I will do my best to respond to your questions and comments in a timely manner, there may be times where I am unable to give you the depth of attention that you may deserve. With respect to this, I encourage everyone to seek local support—whether that is with a counselor, psychiatrist, naturopathic doctor, spiritual leader, close friend or family member.

Lastly, if you chose to participate in discussions, please do so with compassion and respect. In order to maintain the integrity that a topic of this importance deserves, objectionable comments may be removed.

It is an honor to walk with you on this journey. To learn more about me and my practice, go to www.DrNicoleCain.com.
